Leucate an interesting place in Sud de France

The old lighthouse at the plateau of Leucate. Today there is a modern marine semaphore station near by keeping an eye to the ships out in this part of the Mediterranian.
In the early Medieval times this plateau was a shelter for settlers living here in fear of being attacked from Pirates coming up from the Barbary Coast - the countries along the North Coast of Africa. Kidnappings, ransom, trafficking and slavery was the name of the game in that time as it is in some places of our world also today.

An old, small, stone house out in the ancient fields on the plateau of Leucate. Situated along the small chemins criss-crossing this great landscape of Languedoc-Rousillon.

The photog. at the cliffs of Leucate at a fine day in May.
