Leucate an interesting place in Sud de France

The old lighthouse at the plateau of Leucate. Today there is a modern marine semaphore station near by keeping an eye to the ships out in this part of the Mediterranian.
In the early Medieval times this plateau was a shelter for settlers living here in fear of being attacked from Pirates coming up from the Barbary Coast - the countries along the North Coast of Africa. Kidnappings, ransom, trafficking and slavery was the name of the game in that time as it is in some places of our world also today.

Iphone6+ Spring along Cote Vermeille by Collioure in Sud de France

The month of May is always a month of new, wild flowers and sweet smells along this part of the Mediterranian.
We are in the outskirts of the small, French, Catalan village Collioure to take a walk up to the summit of Fort St. Elme - going up from South with a perfect Vista to Port-Vendres and then go down at the North side - ending in Collioure for a beer or a glass of wine.

Our plane to Barcelona will leave from Oslo at 09.00 tomorrow morning.
It is time for some (hopefully) warmer and more summer like days down in our apartment in the small village Collioure right over the border to Sud de France.

Here is the madam on the coast path from Collioure to Port Vendres at the same time in May last year - just the weather we expect to have also this spring in Sud de France.

Fredriksten Fortress - the lightshow. Halden, Norway

The lightshow is displayed on two of the old walls inside the inner fortification at Fredriksdten Fortress (Festning) in Halden, a border town to Sweden.

From the net:
Play of light that appear on the fortress walls takes us on the situation, environment, history and change 350 years. It is composed of animation and film, with amazing sound effects. Play of light appear on the walls of the inner fortress, eastern curtain wall and the upper reservoir. This is part of 350  year celebration to the fortress.

Play of light show every evening. See a short excerpts right below:

From night to morning by Fredrikssten Fortress (Festning) in Halden, Norway Southeast

On the backside of the Fortress that face the town and the direction of the Swedish border there is a small pond with a fine mirror effect in the evening.

The next morning I have walked down to the city of Halden in the morning mist. Looking up the hills I can barely see the contours of the fortress up in the fog.

Later in the day I am back by the fortress to enjoy some fine walks in the well conserved parklike area.

More from the net
Construction of Fredriksten started in 1661 after Norway lost the Bohuslän district and Bohus Fortress to Sweden in 1658.

Three subsequent attacks by the Swedes on Halden in 1658-1660 convinced Fredrik 3. the King of Denmark and Norway; a strong, modern fortress was needed.

During the war in 1718, Swedish King Karl 12. fell before the walls of Fredriksten fortress.

Fredriksten is Norway`s largest, most important and most venerable border fortress.
Many also find it one of the most magnificent in Europe, majestically located above Halden.

It offers a fantastic view of the town and the fjord, and far into what once was enemy territory.

An evening visit to Fredriksten Fortress in Halden, Norway

I am up here at the old fortress waiting for a light show to be launched presenting the rich history of this fortress where even the Swedish King Carl 12th met his faith in form of a bullett shot in a night like this....

Right by the Fortress you will find a camping where I am residing complete alone with my small caravan this night in the end of April.

A superb panorama from Fjellbacka at the Sweden Westcoast

A fantastic photo put together by 3 separate photos (stitched). This incredible vista can be seen by anyone hiking to the summit of Vetteberget - following the Kungsklyften back to the village.

The fence to the left in the pano is following the small canyon Kungsklyften with the large stone catched between the cliff walls as shown below:

As you can see an exciting path taking you right under this huge stone between the cliff walls

After this daring hike we recommend a typical lunch at one of the village restaurants

Swedish westcoast treatment with a huge local shrimp sandwich and for the later coffe a Danish pastry.
